SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship Program of the University of Santo Tomas is committed to providing access to quality education for poor but deserving students. The scholarship program under the Office for Student Affairs are of four (4) categories: namely, the Academic Scholarship given to students with excellent academic performance; the Scholarship for the Gifted given to students who excel in the performing arts and music; the Equity Scholarship extended to deserving students in need of financial assistance; and the Student Assistance Scholarship for students who are in need of financial assistance and willing to render assistanceship hours (20-30 hours per week) in the university. Other scholarships are given by outside donors through the university. Applications to these scholarships are coursed through the Office for Grants and Endowment and the Alumni Association of the College.

Under the Office of the Dean, the Scholarship Committee of the College coordinates the University’s scholarship programs. The main function of the committee is to review applications for scholarships. The committee recommends possible scholarship recipients to the Dean who makes the endorsement to the Office for Student Affairs.

1. What are the scholarships available for Thomasian students?

  • Santo Domingo de Guzman
     This Scholarship, named after the Founder of the Order of the preachers, is given to the students who excel in the arts, music, and sports
  • San Martin De Porres
     This scholarship, named after the Dominican Patron Saint of the poor, is extended to deserving students in need of financial assistance.
  • San Lorenzo Ruiz
     This scholarship is given to students who are in need of financial assistance and are willing to render assistantship hours (20 to 30 hours per week) in the University.
  • Santo Tomas
     This scholarship, named after the Patron Saint of the University, is given to students with excellent academic performance.
2.Where may students interested with the Santo Domingo Scholarship apply?

For Music:
  • Interested applicants may inquire and apply at the Conservatory of Music.
For Athletes:
  • Interested applicants may inquire and apply at the Institute of Physical Education & Athletics (IPEA).
3. What are the qualifications for the San Lorenzo Ruiz Scholarship?

  • Must be a Filipino citizen;
  • Must pass the UST Entrance Test;
  • Average grade not lower than 2.50 (previous semester for higher years) and 80% (for freshmen);
  • No failing grades incurred in all semesters (for higher years);
  • Belongs to a family whose gross income does not exceed Php 300,000.00
4. What are the requirements for the San Lorenzo Ruiz Scholarship?

The applicant must submit the following to the Office for Student Affairs(OSA):
  • Accomplished and signed application form (to be secured from OSA);
  • Photocopy/print-out of the UST Entrance Test result (for freshmen only)
  • Photocopy of Form 138/137 (for freshmen);
  • Photocopy of Transcript of Records (for higher years);
  • Photocopy of UST Registration Form;
  • Parent’s/Guardian’s Letter of Consent;
  • Photocopy of Baptismal Certificate;
  • Photocopy of the latest ITR/ Certification of non-filing of ITR from the BIR with attached affidavit /Proof of income of Parents(Contracts for OFW/pay slips);
  • Recommendation Letter from the Parish Priest;
  • Barangay Clearance (sketch of residence at the back);
  • 2 copies of 2″ x 2″ colored ID Pictures
5. What is the procedure for application for the San Lorenzo Ruiz Scholarship?

Submit the accomplished and signed application form together with the complete requirements on the date to be announced by the Office for Student Affairs. Candidates will undergo a series of interviews as scheduled. **All scholarships shall be subject for approval from the UST Scholarship Committee.

6. What is the benefit of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Scholarship?

100% defrayal of the total fees and monthly stipend

7. What are the qualifications for the San Martin De Porres Scholarship?

  • Must be a Filipino Citizen;
  • Must pass the UST Entrance Test (for freshmen);
  • Average grade of not lower than 85% (for freshmen);
  • Average grade of not lower than 2.25 (for the previous semester – for higher years);
  • No failing grades incurred (for higher years);
  • Belongs to a family whose gross annual income does not exceed Php 300,000.00.
8. What are the requirements for the San Martin De Porres Scholarship?

The applicant must submit the following to the Office for Student Affairs(OSA)
  • Accomplished and signed application form (to be secured from OSA);
  • Photocopy/print-out of the UST Entrance Test result (for freshmen only)
  • Photocopy of UST Registration Form (if enrolled);
  • Photocopy of Grades;
    • Form 138 or 137 (HS Card) (for freshmen only)
    • Temporary Transcript of Records (for Higher years w/ 2.25 General Average)
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character;
    • Issued by the Dean/ Office for the Students Affairs (for higher years)
    • Issued by the Principal or Guidance Counselor (for Freshmen)
  • Baptismal Certificate (if applicable);
  • Parents’ Proof of Income;
    • Photocopy of latest Income Tax Return of both Parents
    • Certificate of Non-Filing from BIR with Affidavit indicating the estimated source of annual income.
    • Photocopy of Proof of Income/Pay Slip/Contract (for OFW)
  • Barangay Clearance (at the back of the paper, draw a map – from the main road of your Barangay, going to your house).
9. What is the procedure for application for the San Martin De Porres Scholarship?

Submit the accomplished and signed application form together with the complete requirements on the date to be announced by the Office for Student Affairs. Candidates will undergo a series of interviews as scheduled. **The scholarship committee shall decide on who recieves the scholarship.

  •  50% defrayal of tuition
  • San Juan Macias Fund
  •  50% defrayal of tuition
  • San Martin-External Scholarships
  •  Benefits and requirements are based on the Memorandum of Agreement of the corresponding foundation or benefactor.
11. What are the qualifications for the Santo Tomas Scholarship?

  • Must be a Valedictorian/Salutatorian graduate
  • Must pass the UST Entrance Test (for freshmen)
  • Must pass the Scholarship Qualifying Examinations (SQE)
  • Must rank #1 from the Dean’s list per year level
12. What are the requirements for the Santo Tomas Scholarship?

Qualified high school valedictorians and salutatorians must submit the following requirements to the Office for Student Affairs(OSA);
  • Accomplished and signed application form (to be secured from OSA);
  • Photocopy/print-out of the UST Entrance Test result (for freshmen only);
  • Photocopy of Confirmation of Enrollment Slip;
  • Baptismal Certificate (if applicable);
  • Photocopy of Form 137/138 (HS Report Card);
  • Certification from the school that the student graduated Valedictorian/Salutatorian (Original and with school’s dry seal);
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character;
  • Photocopy of UST Registration Form (if enrolled);
  • Certification that the student ranks number 1, from the Dean’s Office;
  • 1 copy of 2″ x 2″ colored ID Picture;
13. What are the benefits of Santo Tomas Scholarship?

  • For Valedictorians
  •  100% defrayal of the total fees.
     Learning Materials allowance for the 1st semester of the first year only
  • For Salutatorians
  •  50% defrayal of the total fees.
  • For Dean’s Lister #1
  •  100% defrayal of tuition fees.
Application Procedure
1. The student secures the application form from the Dean’s office.
2. The accomplished form is submitted to the Dean’s office.
3. The scholarship committee of the college reviews the application.
4. After the selection process, the committee recommends the applicant to the Dean. The Dean makes the endorsement.
5. The Dean’s office submits the endorsement to the Office for Student Affairs.
6. The University Scholarship Committee makes the final approval.
